Paul Wesley Will Star in and Produce New Film Titled Convergence
You know him best as Stefan Salvatore, but it seems Paul Wesley is looking for any and all opportunities to completely separate himself from The Vampire Diaries. He’s already got a few films under his belt lately — Before I Disappear, Amira & Sam, and Mothers Day — but now the 32-year-old actor can put on his resume that he’ll star in and produce Convergence.
“My first couple of hiatuses I was looking for indies to separate me from the younger material,” Paul tells Deadline about looking for material extremely different than the CW series. “Now I’m looking for flawed characters, because my [Vampire Diaries] character is very heroic. My character inConvergence is not the protagonist but is the guy who pushes things a little too far, and too hard, and produces some scary results.”
There’s not much info out there about Convergence, but Deadline says it’s described as a “college-age ensemble piece” that can be compared to Fight Club and is based on “science fact.” It will follow a group of undergrad engineers who will dabble in “a new technology far beyond their expectations and beyond the limits of human control.” Sounds a little creepy, if you ask us!
Lately Paul has been stepping out from in front of the camera to explore the other side of the business. In addition to producing Before I Disappear, he’s already directed an episode of TVD and is set to direct the Season 6 midseason premiere, which will air in January 2015. He’ll start filmingConvergence this spring in Shanghai and Atlanta — where TVD films.
“We are very excited to work with Paul Wesley on this project and believe the film will resonate with audiences on a global scale,” Crimson Forest Entertainment CEO Jonathan Lim told the site. “The film’s plotline and cast of characters align perfectly with our distribution objectives and we look forward to hitting the ground running in 2015 with a talented cast and crew.”
Sounds like Paul has booked another winner! We already can’t wait to see this flick!
