Paul Wesley in the Trailer For His New Film Amira & Sam
Paul Wesley sure knows how to pick indie film roles! The Vampire Diaries actor stars in the upcoming release Amira & Sam, and it sounds like it could become an instant classic. How can you see Paul’s new flick?
Amira & Sam is a love story between Army veteran Sam and Iraqi immigrant Amira. The two strike up an unlikely relationship when Amira’s brother asks Sam to let Amira stay at his house, as she is at risk of being deported. Paul plays Sam’s slimeball Wall Street cousin who uses Sam’s veteran status as a way to make deals with prospective clients. In the latest promo, we see Paul’s character telling Sam: “Nothing is happening. You’re not gonna find anything. You’re being crazy, man.” (Oh, Paul, you play such a convincing sleaze.) Amira & Sam will be released in theaters and on VOD on January 30.
This is the second recent role that has Paul playing a less-than-savory character in an indie film. He also appears in Before I Disappear as an eagerly-angered bowling alley manager standing in the way of the main character’s redemption. Both movies filmed in NYC, one of the reasons Paul was interested in the roles. He told Huffpost Live: “I like doing sort of gritty, urban stories. I do tend to gravitate towards that,” Paul continued, implying that he might continue to focus on similar projects moving forward. Gulp, after The Vampire Diaries.
