The Vampire Diaries Season 6 Spoilers: Is Caroline Headed For a Breakdown?

We’ll admit it: we’re totally hooked on the Steroline dynamic this season. The Vampire Diaries has been full of delightful character dynamics in Season 6, but the struggles of former besties Stefan and Caroline has been amongst the best. Will the stress and heartbreak of their maybe-reconciliation have Caroline heading for a breakdown? Here’s what’s the actors had to tell TV Guide on the subject.

"I think Caroline and Stefan can redeem their friendship just because that's what happens in life," Candice teased. "Sometimes you can't and friendships are just lost, but when there's grief being experienced, that's a good place to start in rebuilding their friendship because it brings reality to the situation. It'll be interesting to see how they progress."

From Candice’s perspective, the situation sounds hopeful, but what does Paul think? He told TV Guide: “The circumstances that they deal with kind of create a bond, you know. Whether they like it or not. Whether she likes it or not. Every character has to go through an arc, and this is Stefan’s arc. And he is going through his little phase in the beginning and then, you know, he comes around full circle. Hopefully. Eventually.”

Our interpretation? All signs point to Steroline working things out, though that road won’t be without its hardships, especially on Caroline’s end. Candice spoke about how much she’s enjoyed watching her character grow over the course of this show, highlighting “how vulnerable she’s been, and yet really strong in her opinion of where she’s at and how she’s feeling.” (We totally agree.) But she also teased how Caroline might be heading for a lapse in that strength: “Sometimes, when you feel like you’re the strongest, that’s when you fall,” Candice teased. “So it will be interesting to see what happens.”

Yikes! How might Caroline fall? And will Stefan be there to catch her? Yep, totally invested in this storyline.
