The Vampire Diaries Spoilers: Do Damon and Elena Reunite in Season 6, Episode 8?

One episode into Season 6 of The Vampire Diaries and Elena and Damon are no closer to reuniting. How long will it take for these star-crossed lovers to make it back into one another’s arms? Well, there’s certainly an argument to be made that the much-anticipated reunion will occur in Season 6, Episode 8. Check out these tweets from director Joshua Butler!

“Reflecting on @IanSomerhalder's amazing performance in #TVD6x08. Literally reflecting. Look close. #DirectorPride,” Joshua tweeted Saturday, along with a photo of Ian talking to someone on camera.

The previous week, Joshua shared this telling tweet: “Day 6 prepping to direct #TVD 6x08: Start shooting on Tuesday. An epic romantic encounter on the schedule. Love is undead. #DirectorPride.”

He could be referring to another couple on this show, of course, but we have a feeling that Delena might be the duo taking part in the “epic romantic encounter.” Not only because Damon seems to have a standout performance in this ep, as we know from Joshua’s other tweet, but because this show is still very much about the love story between Damon and Elena. Even if the tragedy of their separation isn’t solved by Episode 8, the show better at least give us a real encounter between these two.

Of course, any encounter will be complicated by Elena’s current medication for grief: forgetting by compulsion. At the end of the Season 6 premiere, she asked Alaric to erase her memories of being in love with Damon. How will this affect their reunion — whenever it may take place? Could this “epic romantic encounter” actually refer to a Delena moment from the past we’ve yet to see, but will need to be deleted from Elena’s memory? Alaric definitely has his work cut out for him.
