Vampire Diaries Season 6 Spoilers: Stelena Has Become “So Platonic”

Even with Damon and Elena  separated from each other, it’s pretty clear that Season 6 will continue to revolve around Delena. For those who tend to lean more toward the other side of the most epic love triangle on television, Paul Wesley has some bad news for you about how Stelena is pretty much dunzo.

“Yeah. I mean, there are only so many ways you can do it after a certain point,” Paul told Vulture about the prospects of Elena developing feelings toward Stefan again. “I almost don’t feel like it’s a love triangle anymore. I know it’s advertised as that — and I know that’s how it started. But Elena and Stefan are so platonic at this point that I just don’t really see that ever happening again.”

Did you hear that, guys? Paul seems pretty convinced that the whole Stelena possibility is slim-to-none going forward. We’ll admit that dating one brother and then the other is creepy, but then going back to the original brother just adds a whole other level of weird. These days it seems like Elena and Stefan are great friends — hey, they’re even holding hands in the Season 6 poster — but we don’t really feel a romantic connection between them now.

“I mean, never say never,” Paul continued. “But I just can’t really see it happening, unfortunately. And I hate to say it for those Stelena fans. But it’s just become so platonic.”

Geez, Paul, way to kill our hopes and dreams! But just before the chat ended, the interviewer asked the 32-year-old actor once more if Stelena is gone for good or if there’s an inkling that the tides could change once more. Here’s what Paul had to say:

“Okay, so maybe it’s still the endgame,” Paul teased. “But maybe not. I just don’t see how that will happen. She and Damon are such a thing right now — even I’m rooting for them. But it’s unpredictable. Damon’s sort of dead. Elena’s a mess. Things change. We have to let them change! But I don’t know what Julie has up her sleeve. You never know on this show.”

There you have it, folks. Stelena is probably dead but, as usual, the Powers That Be could have something totally diabolical up their sleeves.
