Before I Disappear Trailer

Paul Wesley Looks Nearly Unrecognizable in Before I Disappear Trailer

There’s no such thing as too much Paul Wesley — even when the Vampire Diaries star is playing an easily-angered bowling alley manager standing in the way of another’s salvation. If that sounds oddly specific, it’s because it describes Paul’s supporting role in indie film Before I Disappear, which is currently making waves on the festival circuit. Check out the new trailer, featuring a very scruffy Paul Wesley.Paul doesn’t get much screentime in the two-minute trailer, but what we do see of him — and this film — only makes us want to see more. This is a decidedly unchivalrous character Paul is playing in debut feature film from director/writer/star Shawn Christensen. Gone is Stefan’s “hero hair.” In it’s place, an air of contempt and general sliminess.
Before I Disappear tells the story of Richie (Christensen), a suicidal screw-up who receives a call from his sister, Maggie (played by Shameless Emmy Rossum), at the lowest point of his life. Estranged for several years, Richie’s sister asks him to pick up his precocious niece, Sophia, because Maggie herself has been mysteriously detained. This begins a night of terrible babysitting and, dare we say it, some soul-searching as the two go from reluctant companions to something closer to  family.
The film won the audience award in the Narrative Feature category at South By Southwest, an honor of which Paul seemed especially proud. “Congrats to the cast and crew of @B4IDisappear Winners of the #SXSW audience award.  @dreamsick @perlmutations @FatimaPtacek @emmyrossum,” Paultweeted after the big announcement back in March.
We can’t wait to see this film — and to see how it does in theaters. With the end of TVD eventual, we’re excited to see its cast members creating and finding other opportunities to showcase their many talents.
