Vampire Diaries Spoilers: Season 5, Episode 18

Title Revealed — "Resident Evil"

We’ve already heard a great deal about Season 5, Episode 18 of The Vampire Diaries as star Paul Wesley (Stefan Salvatore) makes his directorial debut with the episode. His co-stars, enthusiastic about and supportive of Paul’s endeavour, shared many a behind-the-scenes snapshot from the set. But this is the first we’re hearing of the episode’s title. What is the Paul-directed installment called?
According to Charitybuzz — a website currently auctioning Paul’s voice as a personalized outgoing voicemail message — Season 5, Episode 18 will be entitled “Resident Evil.” Spooky. And vague. The film franchise of the same name tells the story of the aftermath of the release of a corporate-developed virus and the monsters and zombies it creates. This narrative has something in common with what’s currently going down on TVD. Dr. Wes, initially under the umbrella of the Augustine Society and then with the help of the Travelers, engineered a virus that would turn vampires into cannibals. Those infected will only crave the blood of other vampires. The similarities here make us think that the Ripper Virus storyline, and its effects on Damon and Elena, might still be going come Episode 18. Yikes!
Another possibility is that TVD is going a little more literal with the title, and referring to an evil that is literally a resident of Mystic Falls or Whitmore College — perhaps, someone who the TVDers never suspected of nefarious deeds, but whom will reveal him or herself in this episode. You never know who might be waiting to cause murder and mayhem in Mystic Falls!
