Renewed!

The Vampire Diaries Renewed For Season 7

Vampire Diaries Season 6 Poster

The Vampire Diaries has been renewed for a seventh season, proving that vampires will forever be cool. The CW went on a renewing frenzy over the weekend, renewing its entire fall schedule. (Yes, this includes TVD spin-off The Originals.) Basically, it was a pretty good weekend.

“Each of these series have helped define what The CW is today, a network that is home to smart, provocative, quality programming, targeting a savvy adult audience,” CW President Mark Pedowitz said in a statement. “By picking up these shows now, our executive producers can start planning next season’s storylines, and rolling these shows out throughout next season guarantees The CW will have more proven original series for our fall, midseason and summer 2016 line-ups.”
Yep, this means that the TVD Powers That Be can plan story arcs beyond the end of Season 6. This means we’ll most likely be getting another killer cliffhanger come May. We also hope this means TVD will have more opportunity to do some cool crossovers with The Originals. So far, we’ve been underwhelmed with the ways in which the characters in this shared fictional universe interact — or, more accurately, don’t. We’re putting in a formal request for some TVD/The Originals crossovers in Season 7/Season 3.

The Vampire Diaries airs Thursday nights at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
