Vampire Diaries Spoilers: What "Tragic Event" Will Bring Caroline and Stefan Closer?

We’re worried about Caroline. The Vampire Diaries heroine may be fighting through the drama that is her life right now, but Candice teased a “fall” for her character, and it sounds like it might be caused by a tragic event in her life. Is something terrible going to happen to Caroline?

TV Guide chatted with both Candice and co-star Paul Wesley in regards to their relationship with one another. But it’s their tangential mentions of “grief” and “the circumstances they deal with” that have us worrying what is about to go down.

I think Caroline and Stefan can redeem their friendship just because that's what happens in life," Candice teased. "Sometimes you can't and friendships are just lost, but when there's grief being experienced, that's a good place to start in rebuilding their friendship because it brings reality to the situation.”

Is Candice speaking about grief that has already happened — i.e. the seeming loss of Damon and Bonnie -- or is she referring to something yet to come. We’re specifically wondering about the synopsis for tonight’s episode, which mentions that “Caroline is in a race against the clock when Sheriff Forbes gets caught in the middle of a dangerous plan.” Will Sheriff Forbes die? Could this be the tragedy that makes Caroline forget about Stefan’s recent behavior in favor of his friendship, and that makes Stefan step up his friendship game and be there for Caroline again?

Paul mentioned: “The circumstances that they deal with kind of create a bond, you know. Whether they like it or not. Whether she likes it or not.” We’ll have to wait and see what he’s referring to — the regular TVD drama or something even more heartbreaking. Either way, he better be there for Caroline or we will not be impressed.
