Isn't Alaric a Super Vampire?!

The Vampire Diaries Logic Fails: Season 6, Episode 6 — Isn't Alaric a Super Vampire?!

Vampires, werewolves, and a 90s-era witch prison may seem a bit far-fetched, but we’ve long ago learned how to suspend disbelief when it comes to The Vampire Diaries. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t some logic fails — twists of plot and character — that go against the rules of this fictional universe and totally irk us. Here are the logic fails that had us scratching our heads inSeason 6, Episode 6 (“The More You Ignore Me, The Closer I Get”).
The compulsion dilemma. We’re totally willing to go with TVDon this journey because of the emotional drama Elena’s lost memories will allow, but there has to be a solution out of this whole compulsion thing. Our two brainstorms? One: pop Elena over the Mystic Falls border where all magic (including compulsion) is erased, then bring her back before she dies. Two: go ask one of the the Originals if they’d be up for compelling those memories back. Added bonus? That gives us a crossover we can care about.
Stefan and Alaric not being able to stop Tripp’s van. If this isn’t a logic fail, then it is an example of Team Vampire having really stupid plans. Not only does it not make sense that Stefan wouldn’t help Alaric stop Tripp, but the fact that Alaric didn’t immediately pop Tripp’s tires is embarrassing. We guess Alaric and Stefan didn’t want to tip Tripp off, but this is a life-or-death situation, people, and the “broken-down” car parked horizontally across the road is kind of obvious.
Enzo dying of consumption. Tuberculosis doesn’t exactly kill people quickly so we imagine it would be very difficult for Enzo to transition into a vampire with TB as his manner of death. If he had vampire blood in his system, then it would have cured him much faster than the TB would have killed him. Or maybe vampire blood doesn’t work on TB? We don’t know the rules, but this seemed an odd, logic fail-y choice to make.
Damon’s decision not to tell the others about Bonnie. This could be construed as Damon just being a self-centered jerk, but we think he genuinely misses Bonnie. So why wouldn’t he a) tell the others the truth about purgatory so they could b) find a way to save their friend? The most frustrating logic fail offenses come when a show seems to make a decision solely to serve a prolonged story structure regardless of its offenses against character continuity. This seems like one of those times.
Vampire-to-human transition. The revelation that Alaric can transition back from a vampire to a human with the right medical attention (Jo) makes us wonder why the gang hadn’t thought of this already. The argument could be made that they like be vampires (which, fair enough), but everyone and their (vampire) mother was chasing after the vampire cure in Season 4.
The Vampire Diaries airs Thursday nights at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
