Is The Show in Jeopardy?

The Vampire Diaries Ratings Down After Season 6, Episode 6

Despite being one of the best seasons of The Vampire Diaries yet, ratings for Season 6 are slipping. According to Zap2it, ratings for Season 6, Episode 6 were down a tenth week over week.
Only 1.59 million people tuned into watch Damon’s return to the living world, compared to 2.59 million people who tuned in last season for Season 5, Episode 6. We’re not too surprised by these numbers. Not only did Season 6 have the lowest premiere ratings for TVD to date, but its also has some stiff competition from Grey’s Anatomyon ABC and The Big Bang Theoryon CBS.
Of course, The Vampire Diaries is still one of the CW’s top rated shows, so we’re not too concerned about Season 6 being the last hurrah for Elena and the rest of the Mystic Falls gang. But we are curious to see what the network plans to do with the long-running series now that it has The Flash. The superhero series had the most watched series premiere in the CW’s history, and it’s ratings have remained steady throughout its first season run. Over 3.5 million people watched the most recent episode, which scored a 1.4 rating in the coveted 18-49 advertising demo.
However, we’re still holding out hope that fans will give Season 6 of The Vampire Diaries a chance. Now that its ditched all of the doppelganger drama and love triangles, it’s slowed things down and gotten back to focusing on the heart of the show — the characters and their relationships.
