Vampire Diaries Spoilers: Can Steroline Be Saved? Caroline "Is Really Hurt"

With Damon’s return in Season 6, Episode 5 (“The World Has Turned and Left Me Here”), we’re hoping Stefan will finally start acting like the hero-haired vamp we know and love. And by that, we mean he better start treating bestie Caroline with the love and respect she so obviously deserves. Can Steroline be saved from its current course of regret and heartbreak?The Vampire Diaries executive producer weighs in with TV Guide!

“[Steroline] will pick up slowly but surely, but she is really hurt, especially after he dumped Ivy in her life,” Caroline explained. “It was the icing on the cake of ruining their friendship in her mind.”

Things do not sound good for these two, but if there’s anyone on TVD who will give her friends a second, third, fourth, or hundredth chance, it’s ever-loyal Caroline. And, according to Caroline (Dries), it’s only a matter of time before our Care Bear allows Stefan back in...

“But Caroline is going to be going through some stuff that in her mind will allow Stefan to come back into her life. Their relationship will continue to be friends, but now that Caroline has these deep feelings, every time they're in a scene together it still feels charged — so we'll continue to play their friendship-romance situation hoping some good juice will come out of it.”

OK, TVD. We’ll bite. It sounds like a possible Steroline romance is still on the horizon, despite the setbacks their friendship has suffered in the first few episodes (not to mention the hiatus) of this season. Stefan is going to have to do a lot of work to get back in Caroline’s good graces, but we’re kind of excited to see that play out.
