The Vampire Diaries Burning Question: Why Is Stefan Working For Tripp?
At the end of the most recent episode of The Vampire Diaries,Stefan shot Enzo full of wooden stakes and left Tripp (Colin Ferguson) to deal with him. He further implied that he was helping Tripp rid Mystic Falls of vampires because, like Tripp, he is a member of a Founding Family. Why is Stefan working for Tripp?
He’s going undercover to help his friends. We’re not ready to give up on Stefan and Caroline’s friendship yet! Caroline may think that everything she said about how much Stefan’s friends need him went in one ear and out the other, but we’re not so sure. We think Stefan heard what Caroline was saying, but instead of communicating that like a healthy vampire, decided to go on an undercover campaign to figure out just what exactly Tripp is up to and how it affects the people he loves. We’re not sure how Stefan is going to continue this campaign given that he can’t cross into Mystic Falls, but he’ll think of something.
He isn’t. He just wanted to kill Enzo. There’s also the possibility that Stefan doesn’t care about Tripp at all; he was just using him as a means to an end. In this case, that end was killing Enzo. Stefan knows that he can’t cross over into Mystic Falls and, therefore, can’t continue his charade of being a helpful member of a Founding Family, but he doesn’t need to. He just needed to convince Tripp in that moment, so he would take Enzo with him and get rid of him once and for all. Stefan could be halfway back to Savannah by now.
Tripp is the key to helping Bamon. This may be the least likely of our possibilities, but it’s also our favorite. What if Tripp — or, at least, the magic-free Mystic Falls — is the key to finding out where Bonnie and Damon have gone and how to bring them back? Stefan has claimed to give up on finding his brother, but we know if he had the slightest inkling how to help, he would jump back on the Hero Bandwagon in a heartbeat. Extra points for this plan if he’s somehow working with Enzo to find out everything Tripp knows. Either way, something tells us Enzo will survive to quip another day.
The Vampire Diaries airs Thursday nights at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
