The Vampire Diaries Logic Fails

The Vampire Diaries Logic Fails: Season 6 Premiere — "I'll Remember"

The Vampire Diaries isn’t exactly known for its rock solid logic, but that’s part of it’s charm. What it lacks in character continuity and real-life detail, it makes up for in supernatural feels and pretty people. But that doesn’t mean we’re giving TVD a free-pass in the logic department. Where’s the fun in that? Here are the most irksome logic fails from Season 6, Episode 1 (“I’ll Remember”).

Late-to-the-party community militia. Vampires, werewolves, and witches have been using Mystic Falls as a battleground for the last five years or so (or, you know, hundred years or so). So the town waits until all supernatural beings are run out to form its own community militia? This is the town equivalent of that roommate who offers to help with the dishes after they have all been loaded into the dishwasher.
Town line signs in the middle of nowhere. When boiled down to their most basic purpose, signs are used to relate relevant information to people. Because of this, they are most often posted where people, you now, are. In the opening scene of the TVD premiere, the camper couple walked by a random sign in the forest indicating they were leaving Mystic Falls. This sign is not on a path. It is just there.
Elena’s pre-med classWe begrudgingly accept that Elena is totally serious about pre-med. (For now.) But doesn’t she have to take biology or something first? There’s no way she would already hanging out in a hospital as a sophomore who has just declared her major. Nice try, TVD. There are too many medical dramas on TV to slip this one past us without comment.
Border prowling. We get that vampires aren’t allowed in Mystic Falls. But why does Elena travel all the way to the town border to snack? Whitmore College is full of kids to irresponsibly murder. And there’s no waiting for Sheriff Forbes to inadvertently nudge them across the town line. Or, you know, if Elena feels like going some place where people won’t find out about her murdering habit, Elena could vamp-run her way to the nearest major city. Maybe the Mystic Falls murdering was a cry for help?
Catch the next episode of The Vampire Diaries on Thursday, October 9 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
