But Why?

Phoebe Tonkin Congratulates Boyfriend Paul Wesley — But Why?

Originals star Phoebe Tonkin and Vampire Diaries star Paul Wesley may not be on the same show anymore, but the celebrity couple still supports one another’s projects. Over the weekend, Phoebe took to Instagram to express her congrats to her boyfriend. What is she congratulating him for?
Phoebe was calling Paul out for his role in the indie film Amira & Sam, which premiered at the Hamptons International Film Festival over the weekend: “And congratulations to @paulvedere and@dinaosaurusrex #amiraandsam is an awesome film #hamptonsfilmfestival,” Phoebe captioned the Instagram photo of Paul and writer/director Sean Mullin (also responsible for The Spectacular Now).
Amira & Sam, tells the love story between Sam (Party Down’s Martin Starr), an army veteran, and Amira (Dia Shihabi), an Iraqi immigrant on the verge of being deported. Paul plays Sam’s Wall Street cousin who uses Sam’s veteran status to win over new clients. Basically, his character is not the nicest guy ever. But that doesn’t mean we’re not super excited to see Paul in this role! The TVDstar has been making some exciting film decisions that reveal his diversity and ambition as an actor.
It wasn’t just Phoebe who noted the film’s success. According to the film’s Facebook page, the film festival screening was a hit. “Our first (sold-out!) screening at Hamptons International Film Festivalwas a smashing success yesterday!” reads the latest update. “Many thanks to the audience, the fans, the#HIFF14 team (especially the volunteers!), and everyone who helped make yesterday such an amazing #indiefilm experience!”
We’re so proud of Paul for the success of his new film. And so is Phoebe.
