Who's Returning?

The Vampire Diaries Season 6: Who's Returning?

The Season 5 finale of The Vampire Diaries may have tested our tear ducts, but it also brought some of our favorite characters back from the dead (including only-barely-dead Stefan). Which cast members (and characters) will be returning for Season 6, and which have been given series regular status? Read on to find out!

The main cast. Yes, this includes Ian Somerhalder and Kat Graham, who are contracted through the sixth season. Executive producer Julie Plec told Entertainment Weekly:  “We will definitely see Ian Somerhalder and Kat Graham on the show. I mean, there’s a million different ways that you can do that. But as far as in what context — how, why, and where? — that’s part of the mystery.” So, yes to Damon and Bonnie. This also includes Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley , Candice Accola, Steven R. McQueen, and Zach Roerig.

Matt Davis (Alaric Saltzman) Huzzah! Matt Davis, aka sexy history teacher/vampire hunter/Original vampire Alaric Saltzman, will be returning as a series regular for the sixth season. If temporarily losing Damon and Bonnie to some white light was the price we had to pay to make this happen, we think we can live with that, especially because we’re kind of exciting to see this epic story of Damon and Elena finding their way back to one another play out.

Michael Malarkey (Enzo). It’s hard to believe that snarky British vampire Enzo has been around for less than a season; it feels like he’s always been a part of this show. We were overjoyed to hear that Michael Malarkey had been upped to a series regular for Season 6. He may be without his favorite murder buddy and former prison mate for a while, but something tells us Enzo will find a way to keep us entertained regardless. And hopefully finally make it to that rugby match.

Hopefully… We’re still waiting to discover the fate of Sheriff Forbes (Marguerite MacIntyre). Though she has never been a series regular, she’s been around since Season 1 and we love her so. Not to mention, she is seemingly the only resident not in the under 35 demographic (if you don’t count vampire years). Mystic Falls needs some age diversity, you know? (It could probably do with some other kinds of diversity, too.)
We’re also hoping to see the wonder twins — aka Luke (Chris Brochu) and Liv (Penelope Mitchell) — back for Season 6. These two were a treat to watch, bringing witchy charisma to every frame they entered. They also seem like totally nice college kids , arguably nicer than the “heroes” we follow. Furthermore, with Bonnie not only no longer a witch, but seemingly dead, you know the fang gang is going to need a the wonder twins’ witchy services soon enough. There’s only so long these characters can stay out of dire supernatural shenanigans.
