Will Enzo Die?

The Vampire Diaries Season 5: Will Enzo Die? "It Would Be Very Hard to Say Goodbye to Him"

Vampire Diaries executive producer Julie Plec’s recent admission that most new characters are “created to die” has us seriously worried about a certain British vampire’s fate. Will Enzo (Michael Malarkey) die? Julie talked to E! Online about the possibility.
According to Julie, Enzo has some “good stuff coming up,” which sounds pretty promising to us — then again, death scenes can be lumped into that category: "We get to understand what the heck he's doing in Mystic Falls, like he has a very clear drive,” Julie said. “He's one of those guys who's willing to do whatever he needs to do. He's going to be our mini-bad coming up in the next few episodes."
Mini-bad? We like that. And it’s much easier to cross back over to the good guys when you haven’t gone all-bad. (Though, side note, killing innocent witches with doorknobs is not the way to earn good karma.) We have a feeling Enzo’s “good stuff” coming up will have a lot to do with his quest to reunite with his long lost love, aka Maggie (Heather Hemmens), the Augustine Society research assistant Enzo fell in love with while he was being experimented on in the 1950s. Enzo made a deal with the Travelers: he would kill Stefan’s doppelganger in exchange for help finding her. As of last episode, he had held up his end of the bargain.
But will all this Traveler-allying and doorknob-killing eventually catch up with Enzo in the form of his own death? Julie’s comments on the matter actually sound promising: "It would be very hard to say goodbye to him, let's put it that way,” she said. Though, this is the showrunner who has killed off fan favorites like Alaric. She tries to make the best narrative decisions — not the easiest ones.
