The Vampire Diaries Spoilers: Will Caroline and Stefan Be a Couple?

This week’s episode of The Vampire Diaries included some pretty intense Steroline moments, and it was kind of beautiful. But were these scenes in the spirit of friendship or romance? (Candice Accola (Caroline) weighs in on the possibility of a romantic development between her on-screen counterpart and bestie Stefan (Paul Wesley).

“Ever since season 2, when Stefan kind of took Caroline under his vampire wing and taught her how to behave like a good little vampire, there’s been a lot of viewers and fans in the Twitterverse expressing their hope of Steroline, I think they call it, to happen one day,” Candice told Entertainment Weekly. “So there’s definitely been speculation and some build up, and it would definitely be a bold choice for both of them to engage in any sort of romantic relationship given the friendship of Caroline and Elena and the history between Elena and Stefan. And so you never know what can happen in the future between these two characters, but I imagine it being very dramatic if anything were to happen.”

What we’re hearing from Candice’s comments: it could happen. There was definitely some room for interpretation in the way Steroline was snuggled up together at the end of last night’s episode, and several TVDers have made comments about a possible Steroline romance. At the PaleyFest panel, Ian Somerhalder  (Damon) said Caroline and Stefan are “pretty cute together.” And Paul said of Steroline love: "Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm friends with Candice's fiancé, [and] he might punch me in the face.” To us, it sounds as if the cast is talking around an imminent development. We think a Steroline romance might be in the cards.
