“While You Were Sleeping”

The Vampire Diaries Recap: Season 5, Episode 16 — “While You Were Sleeping”

Elena is back! But she’s in for a rude awakening when she realizes that Katherine did more than just ruin her relationship with Damon — she injected her with the ripper virus! Oh, and if that wasn’t traumatic enough, she added in some werewolf venom for good measure. On tonight’s episode, (Season 5, Episode 16: “While You Were Sleeping”), Elena will be spiraling out of control, thanks to the venom in her veins. Will her friends be able to figure out a way to cure her before it’s too late? We’re going to go with yes, but they’re going have to go to the Travelers for help.
Now that she’s free of Katherine’s control, Elena has a lot to catch up on, including the fact Damon killed Aaron Whitmore. In this sneak peek, we see Jeremy and Matt taunt Damon about how she will react when she learned the truth. He threatens them to keep quiet — he wants to be the one to tell her. And we think he will, judging by this line from the synopsis: “Damon finally tells Elena the truth about his recent activities, and they come to a new agreement about their relationship.” It looks like this turns into a steamy makeout sesh… RIP Aaron?
Meanwhile, Caroline is conducting some sleuthing into Dr. Wes’ anti-vampire research. According to the synopsis, while going through his files, she “discovers a frightening secret.” That doesn’t sound good. Are there more Ripper Vampires out there, ready to cull the vampire population via cannibalism? And is this where Damon’s bestie Enzo comes in? Yep!  According to the synopsis, he runs into Caroline when she is ransacking Dr. Wes’ stuff, “claiming to have the solution everyone is searching for.” We’re going to assume this has something to do with the Travelers and their love of doppelgangers.
Needless to say, partners in crime Caroline and Enzo meet up with Stefan to talk about their finding, but they’re not alone. Did the Travelers follow them? What do they want with Stefan?
