The Vampire Diaries Spoilers: Will Caroline's "Chemistry" With Enzo Lead to Something More?

There’s been much speculation about whether The Vampire Diaries Caroline (Candice Accola) and Enzo (Michael Malarkey) might be hooking up on their upcoming road trip to retrieve Stefan’s doppelganger in Thursday’s episode. But is there any truth to that speculation? Executive producer Julie Plec spoke to E! Online about the possibility of Carenzo.

"I think it's fairly safe to say now after five years that Caroline has chemistry with everybody,” Julie told the news outlet, “and so there's definitely some fun banter and some flirtation that she indulges on a small level because Enzo is a highly mischievous flirt, but I think it's really more just he gets a kick out of digging at her and poking at her. That' just the kind of guy he is. He likes to rile people up and she's very easily riled."

So, it sounds like Caroline and Enzo will not be happening — at least for now. A far likelier prospect seems to be Steroline. They’re looking cozy in this promo for Season 5, Episode 17 (“Rescue Me”), and Julie told those gathered for the TVD PaleyFest panel that "[Caroline] and Stefan have a lot to do together in the next couple episodes,” and Ian Somerhalder totally ships them. The synopsis for Thursday’s episode also teases that the besties will “share a special moment of friendship.” We think that may be a euphemism for some kind of romantic development, but decoding TV synopses is an art more than a science.
