Vampire Diaries Spoilers: Are Stefan and Elena Meant to Be?

As you may have seen in the promo for the next all-new Vampire Diaries, Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) are being drawn back together through shared visions of their could-have-been happy future together. The dreams may be fake, but is the possibility of that future real? Paul Wesley talked to E! Online about Stelena’s future!

"Those two are like perpetually a pendulum that swings. There's really no algorithm," Paul said. "I don't think anything that happens is permanent, so the answer to that question is that I'm sure they'll work it out in the end."

So, Stelena will both always and never have the possibility of a happy ending? Trippy, Paul, but we kind of know what you mean. After five seasons on the love triangle roller coaster, nothing seems permanent to us, either. We have a feeling we’ll have to wait for the season finale to find out just who Elena will end up with — forever.

As for the more imminent future, it seems Elena is still firmly on the Delena bandwagon. The synopsis for Season 5, Episode 19 (“Man on Fire”) tells us: “Stefan tries to distract Elena from obsessing about the state of her relationship with Damon.” Yeah, it doesn’t sound like Stelena will be happening anytime soon — well, unless evil Traveler leader Markos has anything to say about it. In this promo, we hear him say: “I’m the reason Stefan and Elena are being drawn together.” Sounds like we’ve got a powerful Stelena shipper on our hands!
