Vampire Diaries Spoilers: Nina Dobrev Says Damon and Elena Are Like "Fire"
Vampire Diaries ship Delena is in a confusing place right now. Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) are apart in title, but together in just about every other sense of the word — unable to completely let go of one another, even though they know their relationship has become toxic. What insight did Nina give into the Delena dynamic moving forward?
Comparing the Delena relationship to fire, Nina spoke to Hit Fix about Elena’s dilemma: “When you play with fire, you might get burned. But it’s also fire and exciting and it looks pretty.” Delena equals fire, OK? Nina added that Elena is “gonna learn a lot [from Delena’s toxic phase], but it’s gonna definitely be a roller coaster for awhile.” Buckle up, people! We’re heading for another stomach-dropping dips on the TVD love triangle roller coaster.
Nina elaborated on where Elena is coming from in this situation, commenting on how she’s grown as a character and woman since TVD first premiered: “Elena’s grown and changed a lot over the years. I mean, it’s half a decade — in my life, in her life — and she was a completely different person in the pilot than she is now. Now, she’s like a woman. She has grown into her own, and I think this toxic relationship with Damon will also teach her a lot.”
Question is: What lesson will Delena’s codependency teach her, and will the learning of it ruin any chance of Delena staying together in the future?
