Vampire Diaries Ratings: Season 6 Premiere Makes History

The moment Vampire Diaries fans have been waiting for all summer finally happened last night:Season 6 premiered! The episode was titled “I’ll Remember,” but it seems like quite a few fans didn’tremember to tune in and watch the episode live. How did the ratings shake up? Read on to find out!
According to TVLine, the episode was watched by 1.8 million total viewers and earned a 0.9 rating in the key 18-49 demo. How does that stack up to big episodes from the show’s past? If you look at theSeason 5 premiere, this year’s premiere is down 25 percent from the 1.2 rating it received last premiere. The good news is that the Season 6 premiere was up 13 percent from the 0.8 rating earned for the Season 5 finale back in May. Premieres have always done better than finales for TVD, but this is the lowest premiere in the show’s history. Bummer, right?
We’re pretty bummed about TVD, but Reign also struggled in the ratings race. The sophomore series earned a 0.4 in the demo with 1.3 million viewers. That puts it down 50 percent from the Season 1 premiere and on par with it’s Season 1 finale. Overall, it wasn’t a strong night for The CW.
Come on, TVD fans! Don’t you want to find out where Damon and Bonnie are? You’d better tune in next week!

The Vampire Diaries airs Thursday nights at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
