Vampire Diaries Season 6 Spoilers: Expect Damon and Stefan Flashbacks
All hail the The Vampire Diaries flashback! The Salvatore brothers may not be on the same existential plane when TVD returns for Season 6, but that doesn’t mean we won’t be seeing them hanging together in the upcoming season — via flashback. What details do we have on Damon and Stefan’sbrotherly nostalgia? Read on to find out!
"There are flashbacks coming up," executive producer Caroline Dries told E! Online. She didn’t spill the secret of which era the flashbacks will be taking place, but she did confirm that is isn’t an era we’ve seen before and that "it will help tie together a bunch of storylines." The flashbacks in question will start in Season 6, Episode 4.
So, when might the flashbacks take place? Well, we’ve already seen glimpses into the 1860s, the 1920s, the 1940s, the 1950s, the 1970s, and to just prior to the pilot episode. That only leaves, well, so many decades to choose from — not to mention the flashback in question will tie multiple storylines together. It could be cool to see some more of the recent past — i.e. the 1990s or early 2000s. We’ve always wanted to see the Salvatores rock the overalls-with-straps-down look and to try to convince people that their daylight rings are actually mood rings.
On the other hand, the flashbacks to further back in history tend to give the show a bit more weight, and can explore the Mystic Falls history in some interesting ways. Given that a major theme in Season 6 will be the fang gang trying to reclaim their home, which is currently a magic-free zone, an older flashback might have more merit. Will these flashbacks be as much about learning about Mystic Falls as they are about the Salvatore brothers?
