You know what The Vampire Diaries needs? Another “shady” newcomer, and that’s what the vampire drama is getting in Season 6. Gabrielle Walsh (Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones) has been cast as Sarah, a new resident in Mystic Falls with “spunk, street smarts, and a shady agenda.” According to Deadline, Sarah will appear in the Season 6 premiere and has the possibility of recurring. Color us intrigued!
We’re not sure what to expect from TVD
Season 6. The show has managed a quasi-reset with the choices to seemingly kill off Damon andBonnie, have a “substantial time jump” between seasons, and make Mystic Falls magic-free. It’s that last point that is especially relevant in the examination of this new character. If Sarah is living in Mystic Falls, that means she is not a supernatural, but rather a human — unless she has found some way around the instant death that comes to any supernatural who crosses the Mystic Falls town border. Might Sarah be the rumored love interest for Matt or rumored love interest for Tyler? Both characters will presumably also be hanging in Mystic Falls, which means they’ll probably notice this newcomer.
Regardless of whomever Sarah is or isn’t hooking up with, what makes her so shady? Mystic Falls has always attracted the mysterious sort, but it’s hard to imagine what someone might want with the town now that it has been drained of magic. Might Sarah be trying to reverse the Traveler spell — or is it the opposite? Does she have a vested interest in ensuring that the TVD gang not break the spell that prohibits a majority of them from returning home? Or maybe Sarah knows something about the apparent deaths of Bonnie and Damon, who we know will be returning in some form. Frankly, any of these possible explanations would make her character immediately integral to the plot, which may be too much to hope for. Executive producer Julie Plec admitted last season: “Most new characters are created to die.” So, um, good luck, Sarah?
