What Are The Vampire Diaries Stars Up to During Their Filming Hiatus?

Unfortunately for us, The Vampire Diaries doesn’t air all year round. Apparently, we have to give the cast and crew some time off or something. But what do the TVDers do with their time off? Here’s a roundup of what the cast has been up to since filming stopped!

Ian Somerhalder — What hasn’t Ian Somerhalder been up to? Just today, the actor was designated a UNEP Goodwill Ambassador in Barbados, part of his efforts to raise public awareness about climate change (he has also been doing press for the Showtime series Years of Living Dangerously, on which he appeared  as a “celebrity investigator”). He also recently attended the launch of the Eat (RED), Drink (RED), Save Lives campaign on Monday, June 2 in NYC. When he’s not busy causing Internet hysteria by tweeting photos of Damon Salvatore’s grave, the actor has visited Brazil twice in the last month, most recently for the Vampire Attraction fan convention. In May, he made his way to  the Virgin Islands to hang out with Richard Branson and a lemur because why not? And no vacation would be complete without a trip to the Coachella Music Festival! Yep, Ian has had a pretty busy “break” from TVD, but the actor seems to love his hectic lifestyle.

Nina Dobrev — Our girl Nina Dobrev isn’t one to spend her break lounging around either. Nina has spent a good chunk of her TVD filming hiatus filming another project: horror comedy The Final Girls. The flick, starring Malin Akerman and Taissa Farmiga, just wrapped production in Louisiana. This means no more prank wars for Nina, though we have a feeling she might use some of that mischievous energy on the TVD set. Since, Nina has spent much of her time — at least in the public eye — promoting Air Optix Colors and telling us how her mornings are going (answer: stretchy). She also popped up at the World Music Awards and had her own adventures at the Coachella Music Festival.

Paul Wesley — Paul Wesley has spent much of his time off with many of his former and current TVD co-stars, most notably his girlfriend Phoebe Tonkin. The two have been jetsetting around the world: meeting up with TVD and The Originals cast members in Paris, bike-riding through the streets of NYC, and most recently, snuggling up for a selfie in London. These two are adorable together!

Candice Accola — Candice Accola knows how to do breaks right. She’s spent much of her time off with fiance Joe King, including surfing and kayaking in Hawaii. The adorable couple celebrated Candice’s birthday with dancing lessons, resulting in what may just be our favorite photo of the duo ever.
