What Happens When Elena Returns?
After last night’s Vampire Diaries, the return of Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) is imminent — but what will that look like? Much has happened since Katherine took over Elena’s body and starting wreaking havoc amongst her loved ones. What happens when Elena returns?
Executive producer Caroline Dries filled Entertainment Weekly in about the mess that is Elena’s life, saying, “Elena will eventually come back to our crew and she has to deal with all of the fallout that Katherine did to her life, including making a move on Stefan, breaking up Caroline and Tyler…and, of course, trying to deal with the fallout of Damon going on a killing spree — killing Aaron Whitmore, almost killing Jeremy.” Welcome home, Elena!
Will the college freshie take all of this in stride, or will she have trouble coping with what went down while she was “sleeping”?
“So Elena is like, ‘Geez. How do I reconcile all of these things.’ Also, ‘What the heck? My friends didn’t even realize I was missing this whole time?’” Caroline teased. “So she’s got a lot that she’s dealing with and will deal with moving forward.”
And that’s not even taking into account all of the tests she’s missed! We doubt she actually knows when the Holy Roman Empire fell. All in all, it sounds like it’s going to be a rocky transition back for our girl Elena. Let’s just call it a rude awakening.
