Steroline Will Cuddle!

The Vampire Diaries Spoilers: Caroline and Stefan "Cuddle" For Warmth in Upcoming Episode

It was hard to miss the split-second shot of Caroline (Candice Accola) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) snuggling up to one another in this promo for The Vampire Diaries. Now, we have an explanation for the coziness. What did executive producer Julie Plec tell TVLine about Steroline in upcoming episodes?
Julie teased the scene of the besties literally getting closer: “They go on an adventure, there’s a train car and it’s cold outside. So what are a girl and a boy to do, but cuddle up for warmth?” Ah, yes. The TV code of conduct. We know it well.
The big question, though: what does this mean to the parties involved. Though the cold may explain the reason for their closeness, Stefan and Caroline are more or less gazing deeply into one another’s eyes in the shot we’ve seen. One can snuggle without trying to see into another’s soul. Is this a game-changing moment for this friendship — and will it set their formerly platonic relationship on a romantic course. Hard to say, given that comments at the TVD PaleyFest Panel seemed to imply that Steroline might happen. But we’ve also heard that Stelena might be rekindling something soon. Not that these two developments are mutually exclusive. Love rhombus, anyone?
We’ve written before about why we love Stefan and Caroline so much as a friendship, and how important their friendship is within the wider television landscape. That being said, we’re willing to see how a Steroline romance might work if TVD is intent on exploring it. We’re not ecstatic about it, but we do love these two characters together — in whatever form that may be.
