Nina Dobrev Calls Delena Relationship “Toxic,” Promises More BFF Time
Ever since Elena (Nina Dobrev) was drawn into the epic love triangle on The Vampire Diaries five seasons ago, there have been zero slumber parties for her and her girlfriends. With her relationship with Damon (Ian Somerhalder) pretty much on the rocks — except for their passionate sex — it seems like she’ll have more free time for her gal pals in the coming episodes. But what does Nina see more ladies nights in Elena’s future?
“I think so,” Nina teased at Saturday night’s (March 22) PaleyFest event in Los Angeles. “The thing is, whenever any girl is in a relationship, I feel like you kind of lose that friend for a second. The same can be said of people when they get married or have kids. So, I think, now that Elena is single, she’s going to get to see her friends a lot more.”
If you’re still wondering how Elena will be able to balance her sexual encounters with Damon and her female friends — Caroline (Candice Accola) and Bonnie (Kat Graham) — you might sit down for what Nina has to say about the Delena relationship.
When asked to sum up Damon and Elena’s relationship for the rest of Season 5 in one word, Nina responded with: “Toxic.”
We had a sneaking suspicion this blossoming situation might be headed toward something terrible, but we didn’t imagine it going this poorly.
