A Guide to the New Characters

The Vampire Diaries Season 5

The Vampire Diaries  is entering a new story arc and, with it, comes the introduction of a host of new characters to replace all the ones they just killed off. Here is a handy guide to keep all of the new faces hanging out on TVD straight. Enjoy!

Markos

Soon to be introduced in Season 5, Episode 17 (“Rescue Me”), Markos is the charismatic but dark leader of the Travelers. He has a whole host of loyal followers in the band of nomadic witches, and has a plan that seems to involve doppelgangers and pissing off our beloved main characters – probably at the same time. Markos will be played by the devilishly handsome Raffi Barsoumian. We can’t wait to meet him – probably.

Luke

Caroline is about to get a new college friend! His name is Luke (Chris Brochu), and he is a handsome, sarcastic, gay hottie who has a sister on campus he will do anything to protect (Liv, perhaps?). Is it wrong that we’re kind of excited Caroline is making friends outside of her high school social group? We know they’re all main characters, but Care deserves more friends. She’s so good at being one!

Sloan

OK, so we’ve already met sexy Traveler woman Sloan (Caitlin McHugh) when she burst into Dr. Wes’ laboratory and offered to fund his research, but she’s still relatively new – and it’s not the last we’ve seen of her. According to the synopsis for Episode 17, Sloan will kidnap Stefan – not cool – and Caroline and Elena will have to go on a road trip to capture a new doppelganger they can use for exchange.

Maggie

Like Sloan, Maggie has already gotten a mention on TVD. Unlike Sloan, it was only in passing rather than through an on-screen part. Maggie was the laboratory assistant that Enzo fell in love with back in the 1950s. According to Enzo, she wasn’t aware that the Augustine Society scientists were experimenting on the vampires and, when she found out, she left – but not before Enzo fell in love with her. Intriguingly enough, we will see Maggie, though it’s unclear if this will be in flashback or present-day form. Perhaps, the former given Episode 17’s synopsis mentions that “Caroline is surprised when Enzo opens up to her about his past.” Either way, we can’t wait to meet the woman Enzo fell in love with. Maggie will be played by Heather Hemmens.

Liv

Liv (Penelope Mitchell)! This flirty and feisty newby witch has popped up in a few TVD episodes – basically, whenever the gang needs magical assistance. Which is a lot. But we haven’t seen the last of her. Liv will be back in Thursday’s episode, as seen in this sneak peek, and will also appear in Season 5, Episode 17. According to the synopsis, “Liv fills Jeremy in on the rumors about the Travelers’ next move and demonstrates her considerable power,” as well as makes a deal with Little Gilbert.
