Vampire Diaries Season 5, Episode 16 Spoilers

Title: "While You Were [SPOILER]"

We have the title forSeason 5, Episode 16of The Vampire Diaries — and it’s quite revealing! What will the March 20 episode be called?
Season 5, Episode 16 will be called “While You Were Sleeping,” per a CW press release, sans synopsis. Sounds like someone — i.e. Elena (Nina Dobrev) — might be back in her own body again. This makes sense, given that the synopsis for the previous episode — Season 5, Episode 15 (“Gone Girl”) — reads: “While Nadia (Olga Fonda) remembers her centuries-long search for her mother, Stefan (Paul Wesley), Caroline (Candice Accola), and Matt (Zach Roerig) come up with a desperate new plan to save Elena’s life.” Sounds like their plan works. Well done, team!
But are we ready for the epic fallout that Elena’s return will entail? When she left, things were a mess, but still manageable. She was planning on reconciling with Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and returning to her ho-hum college existence. Now, Damon has not only gone off the deep end — killing Aaron, kidnapping her brother, and being an all-around jerk — but he’s been turned into a vampire cannibal. That’s going to be a lot to process. And that’s not even taking into account any psychological damage Elena may have suffered during her time “away.” Did she experience being banished from her body, as the title suggests, like she was sleeping? Or was it more traumatizing than that? Was she forced to watch as Katherine fooled her friends and family, and used her body for whatever she deemed important?
Speaking of Katherine, what does Elena’s return mean for her? After months of stressing out about her presumed death in the 100th episode, only for her to survive, we’re not sure if we’re prepared for the real deal. If Elena’s back, does that mean Katherine is gone — for good? With so many questions to address, this episode might just be an instant classic.
Catch the next episode of The Vampire Diaries on Thursday, February 27 at 8 p.m. ET on the CW.
