Saturn Award 2014

The Vampire Diaries Nominated For 2014 Saturn Award!

The Vampire Diaries may not be getting an Emmy anytime soon — a grievous oversight, in our opinion — but it does have a chance at a Saturn Award. The 2014 nominations have been announced, and TVD is on the short list for “Best Youth-Oriented Television Series!” Which other youth-oriented series is it up against?

TVD has been nominated in the category with six other heavy-hitters: Pretty Little Liars, Arrow, The Tomorrow People, Supernatural, and Teen Wolf. We have to admit: the Saturn Awards are where it’s at because we love all of these shows, and wouldn’t want to have to choose between them. Luckily, we don’t have to! That job goes to The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror Films, originally founded in 1972 “to honor and recognize films often overlooked by mainstream awards.” They have since expanded to recognizing TV, as well as film.

And they totally love TVD. This is TVD’s  fifth Saturn Award nomination. It has been nominated twice before in the same category and twice before in “Best Network Series.” Unfortunately, the Academy tends to love other shows more — TVD is yet to win. Might this be its year? As Academy president Robert Holguin noted, it’s a competitive one...

“This has been an incredible year for genre entertainment which I affectionately refer to as enhanced or exaggerated reality,” he said. (We like him.) “The films and shows we honor continue to lead in box-office success showcasing a cadre of great talent helming today’s works of wonder. I’m thrilled to see the organization reach it’s fourth decade of dedication to the most imaginative creations on the silver screen and fantastic visions on the television screen.”

Keep on trucking, Rob!
