Vampire Diaries Cast Supports Campaign to Honor Sarah Jones During 2014 Oscars In Memoriam Tribute
The Vampire Diaries family lost one of their own last Thursday when 27-year-old camera assistant Sarah Jones died on the set of the film Midnight Rider. In the wake of the tragedy, the film and television production community is banding together in an attempt to get Sarah honored during the “In Memoriam” tribute at this Sunday’s Oscar’s — and the TVD cast is right there with them.
“Only 27 years old, Sarah's promising life was cut short when she was struck by a train while working on a dangerous set,” reads the online petition, which is almost up to 27,000 signatures at the time of this posting. “Crew members are the unsung heroes of film and television production who work long hours and sometimes very dangerous conditions for the love of filmmaking. Sarah Elizabeth Jones was one of us. We ask for Sarah Elizabeth Jones' love and passion for filmmaking be acknowledged on the grandest stage of all, The Academy Awards.”
“Pls sign + RT Petition for Sarah,” Nina Dobrev (Elena) tweetedyesterday. Executive producer Julie Plec also sent out a tweet in support of the campaign, as well as a more general statement on the profound loss the TVD family endured in Sarah’s passing: “The #TVDFamily lost a loved one today. RIP beautiful Sarah Jones,” Julie tweeted early Friday morning.
In addition to the campaign for Sarah’s inclusion in the “In Memoriam” tribute, Sarah’s friends and family have organized a Facebook Page called“Slates for Sarah,” a place for production friends and colleagues to post slates dedicated to Sarah. Paul Wesley (Stefan) and Nina took a picturewith one yesterday with the message: “Our #TVDfamily lost a loved one. Beautiful soul. A dear friend. I miss you Sarah. You will always be a part of us… #SlatesForSarah.”
You can sign the online petition for Sarah’s inclusion in the “In Memoriam” tribute here. The petition will be submitted to the Academy for consideration by Friday at 10 a.m.
