Are you ready for that “emotional” season finale that Caroline Dries has been teasing for weeks? Well, it’s right around the corner, and let us tell you, there’s plenty of danger and heartbreak waiting for us when it arrives.
According to the official synopsis from the CW, Season 5, Episode 22 (“Home”) is not for the faint of heart. The Travelers have taken over total control of Mystic Falls, and they have no problem using violence against Tyler to prove it.

Meanwhile, despite experiencing a tragic loss, Damon’s ready to “strap on his hero hair.” He comes up with a dangerous plot to save The Other Side which relies on near-perfect timing from Jeremy and Matt. Unfortunately, his plan completely backfires causing a massive explosion throughout Mystic Falls.

Emotions will be at an all time high as the finale establishes new parameters for the environment of the show. As Paul Wesley describes it, “They reset things in a way, and the writers have the ability to now change the circumstances and locations of where the show takes place [in Season 6].”

Heartbroken by an unexpected tragedy, Damon is focused on holding himself together, while pushing Bonnie harder than ever to find a way to stop the disintegration of the Other Side. Elena takes matters into her own hands and demands that Liv and Luke help her, but Liv refuses to cooperate until Caroline provides her with some personal motivation. Sheriff Forbes is horrified when Markos uses violence against Tyler/Julian to prove that Mystic Falls is now under the control of the Travelers. With new information from the Sheriff, Damon comes up with a dangerous plan that relies on split-second timing from Jeremy and Matt. Liv’s off-hand remark regarding Stefan gets a surprisingly emotional response from Caroline. As conditions on the Other Side worsen, Bonnie takes the opportunity to settle an old score. Finally, Damon’s plan causes a massive explosion in Mystic Falls, and everyone is caught up in the confusion, leaving a trail of heroism, sacrifice, relief, and despair.
