For a show about vampires, The Vampire Diaries hasn’t spend nearly enough time in cemeteries — especially in Season 5. But that’s about to change! What is this we hear about an upcoming scene in Mystic Falls’ foggy graveyards?
“Night shoot in a cemetery. #surprise #tvd, director Chris Grismer captioned the Instagram shotfeaturing an angel statue superimposed over the trees of the cemetery. What’s going down in the Mystic Falls’ graveyard? Should we be worried?

To be fair, cemeteries don’t always spell doom and gloom on TVD. (Only one of the reasons why we so adore this show.) Sometimes, they spell town parties. That being said, we can’t imagine a fun reason for the TVDers hanging in the town cemetery this close to the end of the season, when there tend to be more ritual sacrifices and less town functions involving in the plot.
Actually, we think this particular cemetery scene might have something to do with the Travelers’ plans. They just brought their leader, Markos, back from the Other Side, and we have an inkling that they are up to something involving the supernatural purgatory. With all of this talk of the Other Side disintegrating and at least one character coming back from the dead, we wonder if more than Markos might be coming back from the dead. If so, Mystic Falls cemetery may just be ground zero for whatever supernatural shenanigans are going down as Season 5 careens towards what is sure to be an epic finish. Or maybe Elena’s just writing in her diary a la the TVD pilot again.
