• Vampire Diaries Spoilers: Why Did Caroline Shred Klaus's Drawing? Julie Plec Says…•
If you woke up last Friday and the world felt a little bit
sadder, it probably had something to do with Thursday
night’s episode of The Vampire Diaries. On Season 5,
Episode 13 (“Total Eclipse of the Heart”), Caroline
Forbes (Candice Accola) decides to get a fresh start on her
love life by shredding keepsakes of romances past. This
included the all-famous horse drawing Klaus sketched her in
Season 4. Why did Caroline do it? Executive producer Julie
Plec weighs in below.
"Caroline was very clear that she's got other plans," Julie said
of the shredding. "She's got some stuff she's got to deal with,
he's got some stuff he's got to deal with, so the plans to cross
paths with them right now don't seem very realistic but that
doesn't mean in life there aren't opportunities."
That comment actually gives us hope for a Klaroline reunion
in the future. And we respect Caroline too much as a
character to let her relationship with anyone define her
storyline. Right now, it doesn’t make much narrative sense to
have Caroline ditch her chance at a new and exciting college
experience for Klaus. She still has people she loves in Mystic
Falls. She has things she wants to do. And, the perk of being
immortal? She has time to do both. Her life is going to have
many chapters. One of them — or, you know, many of
them — might involve an epic romance with Klaus.
Julie also spoke on the point of the steamy Klaroline
hookup in the 100th episode. According to the executive
producer, the development wasn’t incidental. It was well-
thought over and fulfilled a very specific purpose: "The
point
of that was to deliver on the story line that had been left
dangling and to get those characters to a new place with each
other," said Julie. Call us fruitless optimists, but we think
there will be many “new places” in this couples’ future.
Did seeing the horse drawing go through the shredder
break
your heart? Do you think there is hope for Klaroline yet?
