5 Awards The Vampire Diaries Should Win — Sexiest Cast, Best Doppelganger Dynamic, and More!
The Vampire Diaries was robbed of a win for last
night’s People’s Choice Awards for “Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy
Show,” so we’re here to bestow upon our favorite
supernatural drama five fictional awards of our making.
Here are five awards TVD should totally win.
1• Television’s Sexiest Cast
The television landscape is populated by an unnatural
amount of ridiculously good-looking people, but TVD might
just take the cake. This is a main cast that includes Ian
“Smoulder” Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, Steven
“Biceps” McQueen, Kat Graham, Candice Accola, Michael
Trevino and Zach Roerig. There is no aesthetic weak link.
And that’s not even taking into account the recurring
characters, former main cast members, and guest stars. Trust
us, this is the sexiest cast on television — and, in an industry
full of pretty people, that’s saying something.
2• Most Character Deaths Per Capita
In recently recounting the saddest character
deaths in TVD history, we were struck by the sheer amount
of people who have died on this show. Every main character
on this show has died at least once — and most of them have
also killed others. Game of Thrones may be known for its
shocking character deaths and devastating battles in which
thousands of randos bite it, but — in terms
of character deaths per capita — we thinkTVD might just
have the edge. Heck, we’ve lost count how many times
Jeremy and Matt have died.
3• Best Doppelganger Dynamic
As much as we love the clone interactions on Orphan Black,
the tense and sometimes homicidal dynamic between TVD’s
Elena Gilbert and Katherine Pierce is our favorite
doppelganger dynamic on television. There’s so much
backstory that Orphan Black has yet to build. With
Katherinepotentially dying in the 100th episode and Orphan
Black picking up with a second season in the spring, this
might change, but right now, “Best Doppelganger Dynamic”
goes to TVD!
4• Most Successful Spin-Off
It’s hard not to mention TVD these days without mentioning
its ratings-raking spin-off The Originals. We’re beginning to
love TVD’s supernatural sister show starring our beloved
Mikaelsons as much as we do its source material — and
that’s saying something. There aren’t many shows out there
that are capable of launching compelling spin-offs. The cast
or plot isn’t as gripping, or the show can’t create a style
distinct enough from its source show. But, The Originals is
pretty amazing, and we think that says as much
about TVD as it does about The Originals.
5• Best College Jump
Not many high school-set shows can successfully make the
leap to college, but it’s so far, so good for TVD. Sure, the
Silas/Tessa/Amara drama went on a bit longer than we
would have liked, but we still love this show. And one of the
best plots it has going for it right now — aka the Augustine
Society and its nefarious purposes — is based on the
Whitmore College campus. Sure, it’s a little reminiscent
of Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s college arc, but whatever.
Imitations is the sincerest form of flattery and, if you’re
going to imitate a show, it should definitely be Buffy!
