The Vampire Diaries Renewed For Season 6

We hope you haven’t had your fill of Mystic Falls and all of the vampire drama just yet, because The CW has just renewed The Vampire Diaries for Season 6! While we’re stuck in yet another hiatus (thanks, Olympics), the Powers That Be over at The CW have decided to gift us with an early renewal for our favorite vampiric guilty pleasure.

“The Vampire Diaries is No. 2 in its time period in the young adult demos, and with Arrow continuing to gain among young men, and Reign growing its time period, we now have strong nights on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday,” CW president Mark Pedowitz said in a statement, touting the network’s strong midweek lineups.

“I’m very pleased to announce early pickups for all five series and let our fans know they’ll have more great drama to look forward to next season,” the CW exec continued. You heard him right, The CW just renewed five shows: The Originals, Arrow, Reign, Supernatural, and TVD. So not only has TVD been renewed, but it’s successful spin-off can also get excited toget another season.

While Season 5 has been rather murky thus far, giving us more doppelganger, Traveler, and Augustine drama than we could have ever asked for, we’re excited to see what will happen at the end of the season and see how it will set us up for another go-round. While the mythology of the show might get in its way sometimes, there are standout episodes like the 100th episode that remind us exactly why we love The Vampire Diaries — because it has the ability to reel us in and totally delivers amazing stories and performances.
